Dutch writer-columnist Simon(e) van Saarloos and poet-performer Dean Bowen are going transatlantic this spring. In New Orleans, each in their own way, they will use the eclectic dynamics of this city in the south of the US to explore themes such as the plurality and construction of identities, individual and role model, history and present.

The ILFU International Literature Festival Utrecht has been nominated by the London Book Fair for a 2019 International Excellence Award in the Literary Festival category. The winner is to be announced in London on 12 March at the opening ceremony of the Book Fair.

Rijksmuseum marks the 350th anniversary of Rembrandt’s death in 2019 with Year of Rembrandt. The year-long celebration opens on 15 February with All the Rembrandts, in which the Rijksmuseum will present for the first time an exhibition of all 22 paintings, 60 drawings and more than 300 best examples of Rembrandt’s prints in its collection.

The Rijksmuseum’s photography curator Mattie Boom has for the last few years been studying hundreds of photographs for her doctoral research on the rise of amateur photography in the Netherlands. For two years in a row illustrator and visual artist Fatinha Ramos was presented with a Global Illustration Award at the Frankfurt Book Fair. After about 10 years, the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium have reopened the permanent wing with Dutch Masters. At the same time there are two exhibitions, called Dutch Spring, that focus on the master-painters of the Golden Age.
